Three Things You Should Know About Your Solar Warranty
What does a solar warranty even mean?! They just sit up there on the roof right? The good news is, there is no moving parts and they don't break down often. The bad news is, most solar warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on. If you scan threw the fine print you will see a million and one escape clauses. Here are 3 things you need to look for.Ted "The Wolf" Strzelecki
1) Roof penetration warranty: If you roof develops a leak is your solar company going to pay for it? How will they determine if it is not their fault if they say they will? You need to ASK!
2) The product warranty and the production warranty are often misunderstood. Make sure you have a breakdown on them individually. Be sure to ask how some companies will offer a production warranty that is 20 years or more but the warranty for the actual product is only 10.
3) Is there a deductible? We have all bought the "insurance" on our cell phones and then needed it only to find out we will have to pay $100 for them to fix it. Does your solar warranty have a deductible? You need to get this in writing.
